Howdy Mayor! It's been a long time since you've dropped by. (Like, three years. If you don't remember what Animal Crossing: New Leaf was, just watch the trailer again to jog your memory)

Animal Crossing: New Leaf has been around since June 2013 (for North America anyway), but that hasn't stopped Nintendo from coming back to this 3DS game in order to add another update to the mix. Today, they announcedNew Leaf is going to get a substantially large update that adds amiibo related features and content to the game mix. Not much was revealed here initially, but we know for sure it involves both Animal Crossing amiibo figures, as well as the amiibo cards. The preview screenshots show one of the cards (Monique), then an arrow to somewhere in the New Leaf game that she shows up at. The other screenshot shows the Wisp NPC prompting the player to grab an Animal Crossing amiibo and tapping it on the system itself to activate gameplay features, so at the very least we have some sort of indication as to how amiibo integration will work in-game.

The post finishes off by hinting that Animal Crossing will have 'collaborations with other series,' but doesn't specify if that's strictly amiibo collaborations, or more general collaborations with Nintendo IPs. Either way, they previewed Splatoon‘s Callie and Marie showing up in New Leaf via some form.

The Animal Crossing: New Leaf amiibo update arrives this Autumn.
